FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we get asked most — about which service fits your business, how pricing actually works, and what some of the more technical terms on this site actually mean.

Which service is right for me?

What’s the difference between Managed Service and Modular Services?▾

Managed Service bundles everything — patching, monitoring, backups, application control, support and more — into one predictable plan priced by team size. Modular Services are those same components sold individually, for businesses that already have some IT support in place and just need specific gaps covered. See Managed Services and Pricing for the full breakdown.

What’s the difference between the Solutions pages and Modular Services?▾

Modular Services cover the security and IT-management side of your business — patching, monitoring, backups, training. Solutions cover the underlying network and connectivity that carries all of it: SD-WAN, dedicated fibre between offices, wireless connectivity for rural or multi-building sites, and unified voice & communications. Most clients end up using both together.

Do you work with businesses our size?▾

Our Managed Service and Modular Services are built for growing businesses with 5–350 employees. Above that size, we support larger organisations through Procurement, Modular Services and Consulting instead.

Can I keep my in-house IT person and still use BlackText?▾

Yes. We’re regularly brought in as a backup safety net or additional support alongside an existing in-house team, not just as a full replacement — Modular Services in particular are built for exactly this.

Pricing, switching & support

How is pricing worked out for my business?▾

Managed Service is priced in bands based on your team size, with a monthly support-hour commitment. Modular Services are priced per user or per device. Every plan is confirmed properly during your free IT & security review rather than quoted blind — see Pricing for current bands and a guide to which tier typically fits which size business.

How long does it take to switch from another IT provider?▾

Typically around four weeks from your first call to being fully onboarded, with a one-month overlap alongside your existing provider so nothing falls through the cracks during handover — and there’s no cost to migrate. See How It Works for the full step-by-step.

How fast do you respond when something breaks?▾

Response times are set out in your Service Level Agreement (SLA), not a generic number we quote everyone. Your SLA is tailored to your specific requirements — which systems are business-critical, what hours you operate, how issues are prioritised by severity — and agreed with you upfront as part of onboarding, so you know exactly what’s committed to before anything is signed.

What locations do you service?▾

Our head office is in Sydney, with clients and site presence across Melbourne, Orange NSW, and beyond — remote management means location rarely limits what we can support. See Contact for our office locations.

Jargon, explained

What does “Essential Eight” mean?▾

The Essential Eight is the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) baseline set of eight strategies for reducing cyber security risk — things like patching, application control, backups and multi-factor authentication. Several of our services map directly to specific Essential Eight strategies, tagged on our Pricing page.

What’s the difference between SIEM and SOC?▾

SIEM is the technology that centralises and correlates security logs across your systems. SOC is the team of analysts who actually watch, investigate and respond to what SIEM flags. You need both — a tool with nobody watching it is just noise. See Security Monitoring: SIEM & SOC.

What is “Zero Trust” and why does it matter for AI tools?▾

Zero Trust means nothing — no app, device or AI integration — is trusted by default, even inside your own network; every connection has to be explicitly verified and permitted. It matters for AI because tools like ChatGPT or Copilot connected to your business systems can otherwise reach far more data than intended. See AI Governance & Secure Integration.
